How it works

From eligibility check to funding

Confirm the location

Send the business address. We confirm it falls in a USDA-eligible rural area before anything else.

Structure the loan

Our lending partner sizes the B&I loan and, for larger projects, blends in SBA or conventional financing.

Guarantee and close

The lender secures the USDA guarantee, then closes and funds.

Common questions

USDA B&I FAQ

How do I know if my location is rural?

USDA generally treats a city or town under 50,000 people as rural. Send us the address and we'll confirm it.

USDA B&I or SBA?

B&I allows larger loans and longer terms, but only in rural areas. Outside those areas, see SBA 7(a) or SBA 504.

Is this a farm loan?

No. B&I is for rural businesses of all kinds. For land and agricultural operations, see farm and ranch loans.

Can a nonprofit apply?

Yes. Rural nonprofits and municipal facilities can qualify, which is not the case for most SBA loans.

Can I refinance existing debt?

Yes, when the project creates new jobs.

Growing a business outside the big city?

Send us the address and the project. We'll see if B&I fits.
